Photos and review of Misser, 5/17/12, at EHS in Garden City, New York.
Photos and review by Hingwa Moy; more photos on Hingwa’s Facebook page, Hingwa Moy Photography, here.
There’s not much to say when members of two great bands such as Transit and This Time Next Year merge into one band and create music. Misser consists of Tim Landers (Transit) and Brad Wiseman (TTNY) with help from the members of Transit filling in on guitar and drums. Their sound brings in elements from both bands, with their pop-punk/indie/alternative sound rooting more from Transit than TTNY. Although their debut album was released just two days before their second show ever (the first show being the previous), many people in the room actually knew the lyrics to most of Misser’s songs.
I had been looking forward to their debut album and seeing them live when I first heard the Problems, Problems, Problems EP back in September 2011. Having previously seen both Transit and This Time Next Year, I had high expectations of Misser’s live performance, and I definitely wasn’t let down. They had all the energy that they do when they play in their other bands and it’s always exciting to see a band throw so much energy and emotion into every song.
They played the majority of their debut album, opening their set with their intro song ”Permanently.” From there, they played songs like “Time Capsules,” “Bridges,” “Weightless,” “Sanity,” and the well-known “Just Say It.” Everyone went crazy at that song, with the crowd pushing their way to the front of the room as well as some crowd surfing in a room with a ceiling about 11 or so feet high.
Although Misser won’t be a full time band like Transit or This Time Next Year, expect them to play a few shows every once in a while. If they ever play a show near you, I highly recommend seeing them live.
